Meanings of Cazaq: Hiphil

Ashley | November 5, 2013

Greetings to our beautiful family of readers!

How’s that for an introduction? Well, we mean it! Dapper greetings aside, we really do love you all, and we’re excited for this month’s performances! We’re steadily chugging towards Thanksgiving, which is kind of crazy to think that we’re already in November, and soon it’ll be Christmas, and before you know it, it would have been one year since our international debut…..my how time flies!

To continue with our study of the word cazaq or “Chazaq” in Hebrew, we will go to

2. (Hiphil)

We’ll concentrate on this particular meanings:

  1. to restore to strength, give strength
  2. to strengthen, sustain, encourage

Examples of this:

“5 Or let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; and he shall make peace with me.” Isaiah 27:5

and

12 “You will seek those who quarrel with you, but will not find them,
Those who war with you will be as nothing and non-existent.
13 “For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand,
Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’” Isaiah 41:12,13

Isn’t that amazing? God is talking to Israel, saying that if they firmly, securely, grasp His strength, He in turn will support them. Unwaveringly, unceasingly, consistently, eternally. This is more than just a simple pat on the back and a “I’m here for you” with unintentional apathy. This is a source of shelter. It’s a firm, set in stone, solidity of strength. Really, there are no other words  to describe this word, other than what we’ve already said.

We want to remind you that the naming of this play was not a mere coincidence, though the author was unaware of it’s meaning. But how amazing that in this play, Merciful Creator is with Cazaq even when Cazaq is oblivious to Him, it’s His strength that gives the Cazaq, the courage and motivation to rise to what he really was meant to be. Merciful Creator’s extending of strength (in the form of Wisda, Deter and Compa) sustained Cazaq through his trials. Firmly, securely, assuredly.

May God bless you, and His love and power chazaq you this week.

With much love,

The Cazaq Team
